Strat Card Break It Down
June 07, 2014

Today we'll look at the 1966 Frank Robinson and the 1967 Carl Yastrzemski Triple Crown cards. The photos are from the Salvatore Caridi Strat collection.

This is the unit breakdown for the '66 Robinson card.

BB - 17
1B - 14.8
2B - 6.8
3B - 0.0
HR - 13.2
HIT - 34.8
OB - 51.8
TB - 81.2

We take the 34.8 hits and divide that by (108-17 walk units). The Robinson card average is .382. This means that Robinson has to hit .250 off the opposing pitcher cards and X-Chart rolls to get his actual season average of  .316.

This is the unit breakdown for the '67 Yaz card.

BB - 18
1B - 18.3
2B - 5.9
3B - 0.6
HR - 11.8
HIT - 36.5
OB - 54.5
TB - 54.5

We take the 36.5 hits and divide that by (108-18 walk units). The Robinson card average is .406. This means that Robinson has to hit .246 off the opposing pitcher cards and X-Chart rolls to get his actual season average of  .326.

Winner
This is a close comparison. Yaz is slightly ahead with the OB units. Robby has almost an equal advantage in the TB units. In the end Yaz is about 90 OB*TB points better on his hitting columns. He is also a LF-1 compared to Robby's OF-2 ratings. That means he'll have a slightly lower runs allowed total, too.

  BB 1B 2B 3B HR HIT OB TB OB*TB
R 17 14.8 6.8 0.0 13.2 34.8 51.8 81.2 4206
Y 18 18.25 5.9 0.6 11.75 36.5 54.5 78.9 4297
